Where are you, Tender One?

I am looking for you and I sense you near,

Calling you closer,

Though it seems you are hesitant to show yourself.

I understand.

I know you have shown yourself many times only

To be ridiculed, smacked down, ignored, dismissed.

Even as you are bright and resilient and at the ready to give of your kindness,

You have come to learn that it feels safer to hide from a hardened world

that doesn’t seem to welcome your tender touch.

I am truly sorry for this, Tender One.

I am sorry for the suffering you've endured at my rugged hands.

I ask for your forgiveness.

I am changing.

I have softened and become more wise.

I want you to know that I am safe, Tender One.

I will cherish and protect you.

I am your world where you can be free to dance and giggle

and sparkle with your wonder.

I am your world where you can be free to melt and roil

and weep with the pain and beauty that touches you so deeply.

I will look after you. I will look out for you.

I am your world and I cannot be whole without you.

HORSE SENSE FROM A NIGHT MARE

So much inside that wants to get out,

To get out all at once, it seems.

How open am I to allow what is wanting to happen?

How willing am I to let go, surrender, release, express, unleash?

Seems easier to chomp at the bit, tighten the reigns

and follow the well-worn paths of the familiar.

Yet it there is no ease in this crazed corral for a maverick Soul

who yearns to be unbridled and boundless in all of its glory.

Restlessness heightens, muscles constrict, yearning swells

to an aching pinnacle, surging and spiking and banging the

boards of ancient pens and prisons.

Oh the desire to be free . . . to run with the wind beyond the

blurring edges of what I think I know exists.

Exhilarating and frightening, going into the vast wild within and without,

passion ablaze, ever beaming and beckoning to the beyond.

Breathe . . .

Greener pastures await, wider vistas crack a patient smile.

Time to put down the crop, loosen the white-hot grip and dug-in heels

of my control and entrust my deepest instincts to lead the way.

Again, and like never before.
