"In reality, we are still children. We want to find a
playmate for our thoughts and feelings."
- Dr. Wilhelm Stekhel -
The truth is human beings crave connection, we all want
playmates. Whether it be with family, friends, creative
partners, or a significant other, we share in common the
hankering to romp around with the other kids on that glorious
playground called 'Relationship'.
Whether we admit it or not, we like to share our toys. Sharing
our thoughts, feelings, fears, visions, and dreams with a
playmate creates a space of delight and intimacy, where we give
of ourselves and where we can be truly received. Relationship is
the field where we frolic with our values and passions, where we
somersault through much of our learning and growth. It's the
playground where we tend to be the most alive and the most
challenged - it's where the action is. In some relationships we
have nothing but good clean fun, while in others we spend a lot
of time rolling around in the mud. And in some relationships, it
seems like no matter how we play, we come away with more hurt
than a couple of freshly scraped knees.
This week, take time to visit your playgrounds. Begin with your
relationship with Self, and then take your noticing out to play
with others. What do your relationships look like? Who are your
playmates? Which toys are you sharing and which are you hiding
in the toy box? What rules are you and your playmates making up?
Does your playground boost and swing out the big vision you hold
for yourself, or is it time to take your toys and go home?
Be courageous and have fun with this. And remember, I always say
no matter where, how, or with whom you're playing in the game of
life . . . . . . . . . You're "IT"!
With childlike joy and enthusiasm,
